30 Christmas Prayers and Blessings for Family and Loved Ones

1. A Prayer to Keep Christmas Simple

Dear Lord, don't let us miss You this Christmas season. Help us to simplify our activities and traditions so we can focus our celebration on Your birth. Thank You for being the Prince of Peace, and I ask You for that supernatural peace to reign in our hearts. Thank You for the simple but life-changing message of Your love for us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
~ Melanie Chitwood

2. A Prayer to Remember What Christmas is All About

Lord, I thank You for coming to earth so You could redeem me. When I think of the extent to which You were willing to go to save me, it makes me want to shout, to celebrate, and to cry with thankfulness. You love me so much, and I am so grateful for that love. Without You, I would still be lost and in sin. But because of everything You have done for me, today I am free; my life is blessed; Jesus is my Lord; Heaven is my home, and Satan has no right to control me. I will be eternally thankful to You for everything You did to save me! I pray this in Jesus' name!
~ Rick Renner

3. A Short Prayer of Christmas Thanks

Thank you, God, for sending Your Son on one glorious night to be born a virgin, to live a perfect life and to die on the cross for my sins. Thank you that he rose from the dead three days later and that this Christmas and every Christmas we can celebrate the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Amen.

4. A Christmas Prayer to Re-Focus

Dear God, sometimes I get too caught in the Christmas commercialism. OK, a lot of times. Today, I’m going to refocus my heart and remember why I’m celebrating this beautiful day in the first place. I’m celebrating Jesus today, …and every day! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
~ Sharon Jaynes

5. A Prayer of Christmas Thanks

6. Christmas Eve Benediction/Prayer

May you be filled with the wonder of Mary, the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ child. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever.

7. A Prayer for Peace During Holiday Season

Lord, in a season, when every heart should be happy and light, many of us are struggling with the heaviness of life—burdens that steal the joy right out of our Christmas stockings. Crazy weather disasters strike at unsuspecting areas, ravaging peaceful homes and interrupting the lives of unsuspecting residents. Tragedy arrives as innocent victims suffer, and an inner voice whispers, “Be afraid!” We need your peace, Jesus.
Lord, we still carol the beautiful message, huddled beneath winter caps on snow-covered porches, or from churches, led by enthusiastic musicians or choir members. Yet we confess that our hearts are too often filled with the wonder of a different kind: wondering when the bills will be paid, when the terror will stop, when rest will come. Will it ever? Is the message still exact?
In a world where worry, not peace, prevails, stir up that good news again. This Christmas, make it real in our hearts. Never have we needed Your joy and order more than now. Thank You for the gift of Jesus, our Immanuel, the Word made flesh. Forgive us for forgetting—that Your love never changes, never fades, and that You never abandon the purpose for which You came: to save us from our sinful condition, and to give us life eternal, the joy of a relationship with a holy God. Your birth—and Your death—sealed Your promise to us forever. Amen.

8. Prayer for Divine Fellowship

For those whose hearts are battered by sorrow or broken relationships, for those whose lives know only conflict and confusion, for those whose bodies are tired and tested beyond their ability to endure this year—precious Savior, draw them close to You. Let them know You are still the same Jesus who was born of a virgin, not in a hospital but an animal barn laid in a manger of hay. You are still the One sent by a heavenly Father who offered no condemnation for our sins, but love and forgiveness—and daily, divine fellowship.
We not only need Your peace and joy; Lord, we crave it. You’ve promised rest for the weary, a victory for the battle-scarred, order for the anxious, and acceptance for the broken hearted—not just at Christmas, but every day of every year.

9. Prayer for Christmas Joy

Release the joy in us that’s been crushed by pride, wrong priorities, or world events. Tear down the strongholds that have held us captive far too long. Extinguish the flames of apprehension that rob us of a calm, quiet spirit. Show us again the beauty of that holy night so many centuries ago.
Your name is still called “Wonderful,” “Counselor,” “The Mighty God,” “The Everlasting Father,” and “The Prince of Peace.” Your children, we cry out for a fresh filling, and a new awareness of Who You are. We choose by faith to make the “good news of great joy” a reality in our own lives, so others can see us as lighted trees of life, pointing to You this Christmas. We know one day every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that You are Lord. And we also know that peace on earth can only come when hearts find peace with You.
You are still our Joy. You are always our Peace. You are no longer a babe in the manger. You are Lord of lords and King of kings. And we still celebrate You as Lord—this Christmas and always. Amen.
~ Rebecca Barlow Jordan

10. A Prayer to Keep God at the Center During the Holidays

Lord, We worship You during this Christmas season. You are our wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). We choose to put You in the centre of our family life as we celebrate Your birth. Keep us from distractions and help us to invite You into all our family activities. Teach us to pray and help us to glorify and worship You in our family during this busy time of year. Give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation that we might know You better (Ephesians 1:17). Thank you for being Immanuel, “God with us.” Open our eyes to realize this each day as we interact with others. Help us to be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as You forgave us (Ephesians 4:32). Show us creative ways to love and care for those outside our home. Fill us to overflowing with Your love for the lost. Teach us to do acts of kindness to those who are in need at this time of year. May our family be a refreshment and light to others. We ask You to touch with salvation those in our family who do not know You [Name those individuals]. Open their hearts to Your great love for them. Help us to share Your Truth and be Your light. You are the Savior of the world. Amen.

11. Give Thanks for the Word of God

We love Your Word and choose to make it central in our family life. Your Word is alive and active—It’s sharper than any double-edged sword—It judges the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12). We long to align ourselves spiritually with You and Your Word every day. We want to pray your Word with Your authority, and with greater faith and obedience in our lives as we approach this New Year. We rejoice in following Your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. We meditate on Your precepts and consider Your ways. We delight in Your decrees. We will not neglect Your Word. Open our eyes that we may see beautiful things in Your law. We run in the path of Your commands, for You have set our hearts free (Psalm 119:14-16, 18, 32).

12. Prayer to Live the Teachings of God

Lord, help each member of our family to be a student of the Bible. Teach us to pray Your Word out loud in our family devotions in such a way that we see mighty spiritual breakthroughs in our home, friends, school, and workplace. Help us declare prophetic promises and decrees from Your Word. We want to experience the life-giving power of Your Word daily in our family. Show us the truth in Your Word, and bring it to life through our prayers. Open the eyes of our hearts that we may be enlightened to know the hope to which You have called us, the riches of our glorious inheritance in You and Your incomparably high power (Ephesians 1:18-19). In Jesus’ name, Amen.

13. A Prayer for the Joyful Gifts from God

Father God, We thank You and praise You today for the miracle of Your Son's birth. Thank You for bringing great JOY to the whole world! Thank You for assuring us that because You came to us in the form of a human, we who believe in Jesus can know with absolute certainty that we'll spend eternity with You.
We thank You, Lord, for the many reasons we have been given a merry Christmas. And we rejoice for each blessing. New life. New love. A home. A job. New opportunities. Second chances. And more.
We know, Lord, that You bring the sun and the moon and set the stars in motion. You tell the ocean where to stop and the snow when to start. And we thank You for the mighty gift of Your creation.
Thank You, Father, for spiritual leaders and faith-filled friends who keep encouraging us when we are close to giving up.

14. Prayer for the Unfortunate on Christmas

Although we have many reasons to rejoice today, Lord, we also know December 25th can be not-so-merry for a whole host of reasons. We pray for those who are experiencing loss this Christmas: relational, financial, spiritual and physical.
We pray for those who are coping with loving a prodigal and our friends and family members whose hearts are far from You. We pray for those dealing with unemployment and addictions and chronic sickness ... and unending pain and frustrations of all kinds. Thank You, Lord, that You are The Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace, even in the midst of our not-so-merry circumstances.
Finally, Lord, we ask You to grant us peace. Peace in our homes, peace in our churches, and peace in our hearts, when the world all around us spins out-of-control. Help us to stay focused on You, this Christmastime and always. Thank You for loving the whole world enough to send the greatest gift, Your Son, so that we might indeed have a very merry Christmas. In Jesus' name, Amen.

15. “Lord, Remind Me” Prayerful Song

When I hear the news and hear another war has begun
And I wonder if God’s on the side of either one
I hear bullet, nail, or handcuff he bore all of them and in the light, my heart’s as dark as anyone’s
Lord, remind me
Lord, remember me
That the shepherds heard the angels break the silence in the field
That the wise men found a baby and they could not help but kneel
That the one who listened to our weeping became a child in manger sleeping
Lord, remind me
Because it’s Christmas and I want to remember
~ Jon Guerra

16. A Prayer for Christmas Hope

Lord Jesus, as we celebrate the season of Christ’s birth, there’s nothing that stands brighter than hope. The thrill of hope. The excitement that no matter what life brings us, we can still have faith because of that night divine, that night, when our precious Savior was born in a stable.
This life is hard, sometimes unbearable.
The loss of a loved one who fought the fight against cancer so bravely.
The unwanted divorce that left us wondering if anything in our lives had been real.
The pain of infertility that leaves us devastated every single month.
The hurt of watching a child walk away from the truth of God’s word.
There’s no end to the painful circumstances we face in this life, but no matter the pain, we always have the thrill of hope, the promise that our Savior has won the victory.

17. Hope for Others

I pray not only for myself but also for those around me. I pray that You, the source of hope, will fill each of my friends with joy and peace because we trust in you. I pray we will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). Give us faith to cling to you in the most hopeless situations, in those times when it seems we should throw in the towel, to give up. Strengthen our faith as we seek to trust in you.
I pray that all of our hearts will be flooded with light so we can understand the confident hope You have given to those you called—us, your holy people, those of us who are your rich and glorious inheritance (Ephesians 1:18). I pray we never lose sight of who we are in Him, of who You say we are. I pray we will grasp the gravity of our adoption into the family of Christ, and confirmation that gives us all the rights of a biological child.

18. Giving Thanks for the Hope of God

This hope you give us is a reliable and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary (Hebrews 6:19). I pray we cling to your hope as it keeps us anchored safely while the storms of this life seek to toss us, to drown us. May you, your faith, allow us to be a symbol of strength pointing the world to you as we remain steadfast, securely anchored. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, knowing you can be trusted to keep your promises (Hebrews 10:23).
Father, we need you. Let your unfailing love surround us for our hope is in you alone (Psalm 33:22). Help us keep our eyes firmly focused on you. Don’t let us get distracted by the waves crashing all around us. Keep us securely in your grip.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only concern is in you (Psalm 39:7). Nowhere else. Nothing else. You and you alone. We know you alone are our hope. You know we’ve trusted you from childhood (Psalm 71:5). We know you will never leave us. There’s nothing else in this life that gives us the strength, the hope, the joy that comes from you. You are our rock, our cornerstone, our firm foundation.
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gives us renewed hope and cheer (Psalm 94:19). We know when we focus our hearts and minds, we will find overflowing happiness, joy. We know your faith is what gives us the ability to keep going, even amid crushing circumstances that rob us of life. Amen

19. A Prayer for Christmas Eve

O God,
you were pleased to announce the coming of your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
with choirs of angels who proclaimed with their song,
“Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.”
Grant that we may so pass our time here to your glory,
that at your Son’s second coming
we may rejoice before him.
Amen.

20. Christmas Day Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ,
true God from true God,
you became a little child for us so the world you made would be saved.
Just as a child is born to a Son and us is given to us,
may we be born again through you
and always remain in the number
of God’s faithful children;
through your merits, O blessed Savior,
with the Father and the Holy Spirit
you live and reign,
one God,
now and forever.
Amen.

21. New Birth and Freedom in Christ

Almighty God,
grant that the new birth
of your Son in the flesh
redeems us from the old slavery
under the yoke of sin,
so we may receive him with joy
as our Redeemer,
and that when he comes to judge
we may see Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
forever and ever.
Amen.

Lord God, heavenly Father, we give thanks that in your great mercy and compassion you allowed your dear Son to become incarnate and through him redeemed us from sin and eternal death. Amen.

23. Prayer for Inward Peace and Goodwill

O Lord Jesus Christ,
by your incarnation you united
things earthly and heavenly.
Fill us with the sweetness
of inward peace and goodwill,

for you live and reign
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.

with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God,
forever and ever.
Amen.

25. A Prayer to Put Jesus First this Christmas Season

Dear God,
Help us to keep our focus first on Christ this season. Please forgive us for giving too much time and attention on other things. Help us to reflect again, on what Christmas is all about. Thank you that you came to give new life, peace, hope, and joy. Thank you that your power is made perfect in our weakness. Help us to remember that the gift of Christ, Immanuel, is our greatest treasure, not just at Christmas, but for the whole year through. Fill us with your joy and the peace of your Spirit. Direct our hearts and minds towards you. Thank you for your reminder that both in seasons of celebration and seasons of brokenness, you’re still with us. For you never leave us. Thank you for your powerful daily Presence in our lives, that we can be assured your heart is towards us, your eyes are over us, and your ears are open to our prayers. Thank you that you surround us with favour as with a shield, and we are safe in your care. We choose to press in close to you today…and keep you first in our hearts and lives. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

26. Christmas Prayer for Peace

Lord, I set my heart on You. You are trustworthy, faithful, and the Giver of the gift of peace. Please fill me this Christmas season. As others see Your order in me, let them recognize You as Savior. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

27. Give Thanks to Jesus

Father, Praise You for Christmas! Thank You for Jesus, born to earth to live among us and pay the ultimate price for our sin. Along the way, He lived a life that we can look to as an example of how to navigate human being on earth. Belief in Him reaches beyond this life, and unto heaven. This Christmas, we ask your forgiveness for getting caught up in the hustle of commercialism and ask that You re-focus our hearts to Christ. Help us to experience His presence and revel in His closeness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

28. Prayer for Holy Pause this Christmas

Lord, I bow my heart before You and honour You. Help me to choose not one but many holy pauses this holiday season. Please nudge me by Your Spirit and remind me to step away from the Christmas crazy and get along with you. In Jesus’s great name, Amen.

29. Happy Birthday Jesus Prayer

Father, today, I celebrate the reality of Your presence in my life. I honour Your birth, Your life, Your death, and Your resurrection. And as I observe, Lord, help me to be "God with skin on" to those in need around me. Open my eyes and let me see them as You see them! I love You. Happy birthday Jesus! In Jesus name, Amen.

30. A Christmas Tree Blessing (taken from Psalm 96 and Ezekial 17)

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous deeds among all peoples. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendour and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary. Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and power. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the LORD in the splendour of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be happy, and everything in them; give all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Let all creation rejoice before the LORD, for he comes, and he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness. - Psalm 96  “‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. On the mountain heights of Israel, I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. All the trees of the forest will know that I the LORD bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. “ ‘I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.’” - Ezekial 17:22-24
